Finding Myself in a Virginia Beach Snow Day

This past January, around my birthday, I took a solo trip down to Virginia Beach from about the 20th through the 27th. I booked myself a cozy little hotel room, hoping the change of scenery might rekindle my love for photography. Funny enough, I landed right in the middle of a rare Virginia Beach snow day. It wasn’t a full-blown storm, but it was enough snow to close down half the town, which was both amusing and a bit endearing. I totally got why—they’re not used to it—but it definitely made for a memorable birthday trip.

One of the best parts of that visit was reconnecting with an old friend who lives in the area. We got to share a really nice dinner and a couple of beers together, which put a warm, comforting note on the whole experience. It was one of those evenings where you feel like you’re rediscovering a piece of yourself just by sharing stories and laughter with someone who knows you well. It was a reminder that even in the middle of a snowy, slightly unexpected setting, those little moments of connection can help you find your way.

I ended up coming back a bit early because I found a 2011 Honda Pilot that I just fell in love with—my little birthday gift to myself. And now, as I finally share these photos, almost a year later, it’s because I’ve been on a journey of healing and rediscovery. Therapy has been helping me find my footing again, and slowly but surely, I’m coming back to myself. So here are a few snapshots from that snowy day—a small reflection of a time when I was out there, finding myself again one photo at a time.
