Aurora Pointe: A Base Camp Beneath Dancing Skies

Some places don’t just show you beauty—they hold you while you experience it. Alaska Pointe was that place for us.

Our adventure into the Alaskan wilderness led us up the mountain to Alaska Pointe, a place that quickly became more than just a place to stay. It became our base camp. Our warm refuge in the deep cold. Our front-row seat to the Aurora dancing across the sky.

The hosts and staff at Alaska Pointe were nothing short of incredible. Thoughtful, welcoming, and genuinely invested in making sure we had the best experience possible, they helped guide us to prime locations for photographing the Northern Lights and made sure we were comfortable every step of the way. When the temperatures dipped to an unforgiving -40 degrees, having a place to warm up, regroup, and simply breathe made all the difference.

There’s something surreal about standing under the Aurora—time slows, words fall short, and perspective shifts. Sharing those moments made them even richer. This trip also became a way to honor life and love. Being here during my sister’s birthday and my mother’s birthday felt deeply meaningful. Celebrating their lives through adventure, under skies so vast and humbling, felt like exactly the right way to carry them with me. It reminded me that love doesn’t disappear—it travels, it evolves, and sometimes it glows overhead in shades of green and purple.

Alaska Pointe created the space for all of that. Not just the photography, which was incredible, but the human experience. The warmth of the staff, the comfort of having a reliable base camp, and the feeling that you’re being cared for in one of the harshest climates on Earth is something special.

If you’re planning a trip to Fairbanks to chase the Aurora, I can’t recommend Alaska Pointe enough. Whether you’re a photographer, an adventurer, or someone simply looking to witness something extraordinary, this is a place that lets you do all of that—comfortably, safely, and with heart.

Some trips change you quietly. This one did exactly that.
